The Shorely's Top 5 Videos Of 2018

As 2018 draws to an end, we're looking back at a great year of creativity and culture across Torbay. Videos have been The Shorely’s sweet spot with over 200,000 views this year. We've done the numbers and counted all the views across our website and social media platforms to bring you the 2018 top 5 most viewed videos:

#5 Tattoo: British Tattoo Art Revealed

Inside Torre Abbey, we discovered the largest exhibition of its kind in the UK; showcasing a rich hidden history, wondrous objects and colourful displays. Tattoo: British Tattoo Art was an intelligently put together exhibition that revealed the real truths of tattoo art. Rarely seen designs, photography and other artefacts revealed that from ruffians to royalty, sailors to socialites, pilgrims to punks – tattoos cross age, gender and class. This interview with exhibition co-curator, Derryth Ridge, really got you hooked! And if you liked that… check out Torbay Rocks at Torre Abbey in 2019, see https://www.torre-abbey.org.uk/

#4 The Shorely Meets: BKYLN.

Earlier this year, Josh Martin and Jack Bannocks aka BKLYN released their self-titled debut album. They recorded the album in Torbay and said that they could geotag every song to a moment they’ve had growing-up in the Bay. BKLYN.'s self-titled album is 13 tracks and runs for 46-minutes. Our favourite tracks include '23:23', 'NYC' and 'Pick Up The Phone'. Stream the album from Spotify and Apple Music now! You can also follow the guys on Facebook.

#3 Cockington Court Sculpture Trail

Back in the summer, Cockington Court hosted 26 different sculptures created by 18 South Devon artists. The contemporary sculpture trail was truly immersive setting and you seemed to like our hyperlapse tour of a few of the highlights. To see what Cockington have to offer in 2019, visit their website or come back to The Shorely for reveals and insider’s guides.

#2 Your Grinagog Festival Music Guide

Just falling into second place comes Grinagog Festival and their Creative Director, DJ Chris Tofu (an MBE no less), who gave us all a sneak peek around the festival site back in April 2018. With 200 acts and artists performing for 3 days across an 800 year old site as Torre Abbey; this was a rare and magical experience in Torquay. Plans for 2019 are being hatched and The Shorely will be sure to bring you an exclusive as and when details are revealed. Want to get to know DJ Chris Tofu even better? #1 Creative Conversation on our Public Space

The Shorely's most viewed video of 2018 is one that affects us all in Torbay; that of taking back our public spaces. Our video unveiled the planned transformation of Station Square in Paignton. What made this video unique was how the developers introduced a creative and collaborative conversation into the process. The social media comments went through the roof of this one with passionate opinions on the site and how we make the most of our outdoor spaces. Torbay Council have provided £1.2m of funding for Paignton Station Square and we look forward to seeing the transformation. Find out more about the development here.

As we look forward to 2019, we welcome your feedback and ideas for future content. Just tweet, comment or message us across our social media platforms, or drop us a line via this form: https://www.theshorely.com/contact-us

Thanks for watching, and a Happy New Year from everyone at The Shorely Team!
