Dance in Devon believes that anyone can reap the rewards of dance. Whether you're 4 or 94, they've a burning passion to get you moving - but perhaps not how you'd imagine. We joined Sue Smith of Dance in Devon at Paignton Library to discuss their latest project - All Aboard - a dance project at unexpected public places in Torbay.

Stepping inside Paignton Library, surrounded by books and reading, this is not the type of place we'd expect to find a new dance project. Yet, every Tuesday, this is exactly the place where you'll find Dance in Devon and a group of kids with their grown-ups.

We wanted to encourage people to enjoy the adventures that movement can offer... Young children are actually expert movers and we’ve got a lot to learn from children in terms of movement. They are very connected to how they move... so we wanted to make opportunities for carers and parents to learn from children in one sense, and also to help children build confidence in this non-verbal period to support them as they then move on into school.
— Sue Smith, Executive Director, Dance in Devon

Based within the kids section of the library, a circle forms, within which Sophie Northmore from Dance in Devon creates a magical journey through movement. Captivated by Sophie's lead, these pre-schoolers and their grown-ups explore creativity, gain confidence together and enjoy 45 minutes of imaginative play-based movement.

The sessions are truly magical. They are full of delightful surprises which have inspired us and allowed us to get caught up in the journey of movement and song. It has been great for my son’s confidence in enjoying and expressing his creativity.
— Parent feedback

There are four locations to access dance every Tuesday across Torbay (see details below). Families can drop-in and join a session just once or every week. This is guaranteed to make you smile -  as you and your little ones dance around a space packed full of colour and imagination. Well worth a try - especially as it's free!

All Aboard is an inclusive dance project for kids up to 5 years and for disabled children up to 11 and their families/carers. You can join a Tuesday session at Paignton Library (10-10.45am), Brixham Barn Children's Centre (12-12.45pm), Torquay Library (1.30-2.15pm) and Mayfield School (3-3.45pm). All Aboard is supported by Children in Need and The Ragdoll Foundation
