Go See The Winter Open At Torquay's Fleet Walk

Artizan returns to Fleet Walk with another arts pop-up. This time, it’s a winter open in this empty shop unit in Torquay.

Earlier in the year, we spoke to Jacob and Julie Brandon about Artizan’s Summer Open, a pop-up art gallery, which was uniquely placed in an empty shop unit in Torquay.

"We felt privileged to be able to bring a vibrant celebration of our artistic community to the high street over the summer" - Julie Brandon, owner of Artizan Gallery

Artizan returns to fill the empty shop on Torquay’s Fleet Walk with colour and joy yet again; this time featuring over 250 art works with 90% made by local artists. We caught up with Jacob from Artizan and asked, what can people expect to see?

"Everything! Contemporary photography, traditional landscapes, coastal seascapes, abstracts, still life, life drawing. We've got a dedicated section to "affordable works" and also submissions from our Geopark Ambassador Artists."
- Jacob Brandon, Artizan

Artizan is on a mission to change how people interact with art in Torbay by taking the art to the people on the high street.

"We've been lucky enough to have continued support from Fleet Walk Management, and being able to put arts at the centre of our town is too important not to do! The space allows us to welcome more artists, and create a bigger show for audiences to enjoy, as well as do our bit to bring back the high street. We'll be supporting other groups to do the same if other property owners want to support similar projects." - Jacob Brandon, Artizan

With Christmas around the corner, what better way to buy a gift, than to also support local artists and makers. The Winter Open has affordable artwork with prices starting from £25 and more collectable works from established artists too. You can find work from the likes of artists including Geoff Weedon, Mike Tingle, Caroline Hall, Richard Slater R.I., Arthur Homeshaw, Kirsteen Titchener, and many more.

With the first Summer and Winter Open in the bag, we wonder what Artizan has planned for 2019 in Torbay…

"Who knows! We've got lots of other exciting plans on the table for 2019, but if the opportunity to do a Spring Open comes along, we won't turn it down! We've got loads planned for the New Year including projects with our Geopark Ambassador Artists and work with the International Agatha Christie Festival. We're also hoping to have a big commitment to photography, as well, as two big external projects in the pipeline." - Jacob Brandon, Artizan

The Artizan Winter Open runs until 24 December 2018 at Unit 5 on the lower level of Fleet Walk. A donation from all sales will go to the English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark. For more information, visit art-hub.co.uk/winteropen2018
