“Flossy & Jim is a colourful lifestyle brand for young people. The moment a child is born, Flossy & Jim is there for them; as there grow up to their teens, the brand is there to support them and encourage them. The inspiration came from my grandad, he was always in his shed drawing and I would run down the garden to go see him - he was just amazing. I always knew I wanted to be an illustrator, so I had to develop my style, went to university and found loads of artists that I liked… A lot of our characters around the room originated from a person on the beach or having a cup of coffee, which people might not know. But then I add a bit of a deranged look to each character, so one pupil might be off, but that makes them look a bit crazy or really excited. It can show a massive array of emotion, just moving a pupil of an eye… Then we think what's the message behind it, how's it going to help young people, how's it going to make them feel good. I draw it then, very traditional. Then pass it over to Jim on the other side of the desk. “ - Flossy
“I digitalise it and make it look nice, clean up all the edges and colour it in, which is a good job. We've worked on a lot of different things, so we license our work and quite of projects that we've worked on like computer games. We do so many t-shirts for Walmart and my brother lives in Montana, I've got bit of family and friends over in America, so it's kinda nice that it's close to them.” - Jim
“We also have our Horace the Hamster books, which is a very personal project which I've worked on for about 10 years. So now, that to be published, as a personalised book is a big tick for me, and hopefully, that will help a lot of young children as well.” - Flossy
“Everything about Brixham inspires you. You could walk down to the marina and there will be something like a crazy massive jellyfish and you think that's a character. Or you'll see shoals of little fish and there might be one going the other way and you think how could you put that into an illustration and how could that help people? Sometimes you need to get out of the office and get some perspective.” - Flossy
