Rock Garden are expanding their ever-growing menu with a new range of vegan and veggie food whilst also regularly hosting live local musicians. We were invited down to taste their new menu. Read our latest review

Tucked behind TKMaxx in Torquay, Rock Garden sits proudly. The outdoor garden seating area (which is overlooked by a gigantic rocky cliff - get it) is a unique location here in the Bay. Inside is a large space that can cater to any occasion; live music, a dance floor, footy on the big screen and most importantly, a great spot to grab something to eat. Be it lunch or dinner; Rock Garden have their pizza oven ready to make handcrafted pizzas, as well as offering a range of tasty burgers, fajitas, sandwiches, salads, and of course some cheeky desserts.

What caught our eyes and our bellies’ attention, was their wide range of new Vegetarian and Vegan options which has recently shown up on their menu. After trying the Fat Cow's Vegan burger for Veganuary, we were interested to see what options Rock Garden had to offer and what better way to find out then testing tit ourselves. The reason for the menu switch up is due to the introduction of a Devon-based meat alternative from The Vegan Chef. The wheat-based, meaty textured substitute is definitely worth a try.

Sat in the purple lit room, we eagerly waited for the round of food to arrive; first up, the classic Rock Garden pizza topped with vegan cheese and a new style of sausage "meat" called 'Smokey Peparony', by The Vegan Chef. The more ‘brown than red colour ‘might not fool you, but the taste and texture are close to the real thing. While the "meat" and vegan garlic mayo may have been the headliner, let's not forget the show-stopping performance from The Rock Garden's handcrafted pizza made fresh in their roaring hot pizza oven. The tasty slice left us wanting more… but alas our friends quickly destroyed every slice!

Our burning desire for more food was quickly filled with the second dish of the night, 'The Amazing Vurger.' The patty was dense, delicious, infused with curry seasoning and again dripping with vegan Garlic mayo. This dish was a standout; the burger stands it ground in being different from other vegan burgers across Torbay.

Coming in a close second place was the new thick filling for the fajitas on a dish packed with Vegan cheese, guacamole and cooked vegetables. It wouldn't have been complete of course without another smothering of the Vegan garlic mayo. Rock Garden is famous for their fajitas, and now we know why!

Our final dish was not quite a dessert but a vegan Doner Kebab! Fighting off the internal voice saying "your eyes are too big for your belly," we managed to squeeze them in our cheeks. As The Shorely crew scoffed, the well-known local musician behind The Vegan album, Bert Miller, took to the stage. With a vegan Doner Kebab in one hand, beer in the other, and Bert Miller playing some sing-a-long classics, it's fair to say this progressive venue has captured our attention.

Rock Garden has such a diverse menu that it really does suit everyone’s taste buds! Whether it’s ‘The Vurger’, ‘Fajita Burger’ or a small plates like ‘Mini Chicken and Chorizo Kebabs’, you really can feast upon anything that takes your fancy and all whilst enjoying some brilliant live music performances. If you’re heading down of an evening, then take advantage of the 2-4-1 cocktail offer between 5-7pm every night! We’re also looking forward to the chance to listen to some live music performed by The Busketeers on the 27 July and 31 August. Well worth a visit and a scoff with friends!
